Roxanne GarciaAccounting major Roxanne García returned to school in 2014 and already had a heavy schedule raising her 8-year-old daughter. In addition to a full course load, the Port Isabel native is a part-time tutor and works part-time as a waitress at a restaurant at South Padre Island.

Before a crowd of almost two hundred at the Texas Southmost College ITEC Center, three female community leaders, including TSC President Dr. Lily F. Tercero, shared their inspirational stories of humble beginnings and the struggles they faced on the path to success during the March 8, 2016 Women's International Day Conference.

Student Profile: Christian Abel Torres

christian-abel-torresWhen he was six years old, Christian Torres saw his Aunt Rosie cut her finger while slicing watermelon during a family event. The youngster calmly retrieved the First Aid kit and began to disinfect and dress his aunt's wound with gauze, as she watched in amazement at how her 6-year-old nephew cared for her.
