TSC observes moment of silence for victims of UCC tragedy |
Texas Southmost College (TSC) joined colleges and universities from all over the nation on Oct. 8, 2015, to observe a national moment of silence for victims of the tragedy at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. TSC students, faculty, staff and administrators gathered at the flagpole in front of Gorgas Hall to observe the national calling by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). Faculty and students unable to attend the moment of silence due to classes in session were encouraged to observe the moment of silence in their classrooms. "Today, we remember the lives that were lost at the tragic event at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon," said Dr. Lily F. Tercero, TSC president. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families, to our colleagues and the students at Umpqua Community College, and the entire community of Roseburg." After the ceremony, attendees took part in a group photo that was sent via social media using the hashtag #IamUCC to be shared with UCC as a sign of support and solidarity.
