TSC Foundation, Inc. awards TSC students $109K in scholarships

"As the foundation's new board of directors, we are very proud to be able to support Texas Southmost College by making such a significant gift for scholarships to students," TSC Foundation Board Chairwoman Tara Rios said. "We look forward to making additional gifts to TSC and to supporting its continued growth and success."

The TSC Foundation, and its newly appointed board of directors, originally made the $109,000 gift to TSC in August. This is the first disbursement the foundation has made since 2012.

The purpose of the TSC Foundation is to support and enhance the role and mission of TSC through activities such as fundraising, provision of funds to the college for the distribution of scholarships, sponsorship of literary/art collections, provision of supplementary funds to the institution for endowments, instructional materials and equipment, and the administration of projects, grants and contracts that enhance the mission of TSC.

The TSC Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization formed in 1990. Its board of directors consist of local community members, TSC Board of Trustees, business executives and entrepreneurs.

The foundation's board of directors are: real estate developer Clayton Brashear, Port of Brownsville Director & CEO Eduardo Campirano, RGV Regional Market Director of Inter National Bank Manny Casanova, TSC Board of Trustees Chairwoman Adela Garza, Valley Regional Medical Center CEO Art Garza, TSC Board of Trustees Vice Chairman Trey Mendez, Cesar Muñoz, President of All Star Medals Nikhil Shah, UTRGV Joint Admission Medical Program Faculty Director Gus Stern, MD, TSC President Jesus Roberto Rodriguez, Ph.D., and TSC Foundation Board Chairwoman Tara Rios, D.DS.

Originally established in 1926, Texas Southmost College currently offers the first two years toward a bachelor's degree, along with career and technical education leading to certificates and associate degrees, college preparatory studies to prepare students for college-level work, workforce training, and continuing education.
