TSC Academy of Lifelong Learning to launch in Los Fresnos

Texas Southmost CollegeAll that is needed is a desire to learn a new talent, skill or computer program – skills that can be used for a lifetime. Students of any age can participate.

The Texas Southmost College Academy of Lifelong Learning, a partnership between TSC and Los Fresnos CISD, will provide a variety of new, affordable, fun and conveniently located non-credit continuing education classes to residents in the Los Fresnos area.

Most classes will be held at Los Fresnos High School and Los Fresnos United, except for a skateboarding class that will be offered at the Los Fresnos Skate Park. The skateboarding class is open to those 12 years of age and older who wish to learn about the fundamentals of skateboarding.

Registration for the spring session of the TSC Academy of Lifelong Learning will be held at the LFHS Library from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 24 and Feb. 7. Classes are planned for the summer as well.

Course fees range from $30 to $60 per course per session. Each course has a minimum number of students.

Continuing education classes will be offered in the following areas:

  • Argentine Tango: Six classes of 90 minutes each for a total of nine hours; the first session begins Feb. 25
  • Cooking with Grandparents: One 2½-hour class on Saturday mornings; the first of four sessions begins Feb. 9
  • Culinary Instruction: One three-hour course on Friday evenings; the first of three sessions begins Feb. 22
  • Healthy Cooking: One two-hour course on Tuesday evenings; the first of four sessions begins Feb. 5
  • Healthy Living: Six two-hour courses on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings; the first of two sessions begins April 9
  • Latin: Three three-hour courses on Saturday mornings; the first of three sessions begins Feb. 16
  • Self-Defense for Women: Four 2 ½-hour class on Saturday mornings; classes begin Feb. 2
  • Skateboarding: Six two-hour class on Saturday mornings; classes begin Feb. 2

Technology classes will be offered in the following areas:

  • Keyboarding/computer basics: Four two-hour classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings; the first four-class session begins Feb. 19
  • Medical Terminology: Six two-hour on Tuesday and Thursday evenings; classes begin Feb. 19
  • Microsoft Word for Beginners: Four three-hour classes on Saturday mornings; the classes begin Feb. 2
  • Microsoft Word: Eight one-hour classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings; the first eight-class session begins Feb. 4
  • Microsoft Excel: Eight two-hour classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings; classes begin March 4
