The TSI is a Placement test for all new college students. The TSI program requires students to demonstrate their college readiness in reading, writing, and math before they can take college-level credit classes. You must take the TSI State Test when you enroll at TSC unless you show proof of exemption or waiver from the requirement. See Exemptions and Waivers.
If you need to test, follow the steps below to test with the TSI.
Step 1. Apply to TSC
All student that wish to use our testing services must submit a completed TSC application via ApplyTexas. Soon after your application has been submitted (2-3 business days) a TSC ID number will be created for each student. An TSC ID number is necessary before requesting any TSC Testing Center services.
STEP 2. Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA)
The Pre-Assessment Activity is a State requirement for all students that are new to TSI testing. The importance of the PAA is to help students understand how the TSI assessment will determine the correct courses to register for at TSC. The PAA also provides information on the college to help students be more successful.

Option 1: Take Online Pre-Assessment Activity
Option 2: Students with TSC ID number come in as walk-ins to complete the PAA in person. The Pre-Assessment Activity is held in the TSC Testing Lab, located in the Oliveira Student Service building. The PAA is every Friday, unless otherwise stated, between 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
STEP 3. Payment
TSC Testing Staff will first have to verify the student is eligible to test: TSC ID number and completion of Pre-Assessment Activity.
Testing Staff will provide a "Test Payment" form and payment will be made at TSC Cashier office. TSC Cashiers are located in Tandy Hall, office hours Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (956) 295-3420.
Payment Methods Accepted: Cash, Credit Cards, Checks and Money Orders
STEP 4. Schedule TSI Test
Student will provide payment receipt in order to schedule TSI Test session( s). The receipt is provided to student after payment is received by TSC Cashier Office.
Scheduling of test session will be done in the Testing Office.
